Hi gioclair, I cannot think of a situation where 凑不够 means "cannot have enough". Could you please provide an example sentence? We will verify it for you. Thank you very much!

I couldn’t find an example in a dictionary either. This expression must be either very recent or colloquial/dialectal. I stumbled upon it in a Chinese drama with Mandarin subtitles. The sentence was said by a child and repeated several times by his parents. “Can’t get enough” was the English subtitle.

Maybe it’s wordplay based on a mistake made by a young child?

I see. Thank you gioclair! Yeah, as my experience goes, English subtitles for Chinese shows are not exactly word-for-word accurate translation. When you make subtitles, there are a lot of restrictions, e.g. length, number of words, etc. I would avoid adding that as a translation here, because that could work in the context of that show you watched, but it may not work in all scenarios. :)
