咋 (zǎ) is a colloquial term commonly used in Northern and Northeastern Chinese dialects, particularly in Beijing and Tianjin. It is often used as a substitute for the Standard Mandarin word 怎么 (zěnme), which means "how" or "why".
For example, instead of saying "你怎么了?" (nǐ zěnme le?) meaning "What's wrong with you?", someone from Beijing might say "你咋了?" (nǐ zǎ le?) with the same meaning.
