In everyday conversation, 星河 (xīng hé) is often used to refer to the Milky Way, the galaxy that contains our solar system.
For example, someone might say "今晚的星空很美,你看到那条明亮的星河了吗?" (jīn wǎn de xīng kōng hěn měi, nǐ kàn dào nà tiáo míng liàng de xīng hé le ma?) which translates to "The starry sky tonight is beautiful, did you see that bright Milky Way?"
