阅读 (yuèdú) is used to refer to the act of reading. For example, 我喜欢阅读 (wǒ xǐhuan yuèdú) means "I like reading".

看 has wider meanings than the other two verbs:
- 看 (kan4) - to look at; to watch (a film); to read (a book, a magazine, etc.)
- 念 (nian4) - to read aloud
- 阅读 (yue4du2) - to read (a book, a magazine, etc.)
If we compare 阅读 and 看 when they both mean "to read (a book)", 阅读 is used in formal settings while 看 is more informal.
