When 天 is used as a noun meaning "day, daytime", it is a nouns of quantity. By noun of quantity, we mean that this noun itself already has a meaning similar to that of a measure word. Therefore, other measure words cannot be used before 天.
For examples:
- 一周有七天。 [phr] One week has seven days.
- 过几天 [phr] in a couple of days, in a few days
We cannot use 个 before 天 in the two examples above. Please remember this, as it is a very common mistake among beginning learners.
Other nouns like 天 include: 岁(sui4, age), 年 (nian2, year), 课 (ke4, lesson, class), etc. Please feel free to check them out if you are interested.
