You can use 钩 (gōu) to refer to a hook, a hooked stroke (of Chinese characters), a check mark, or to indicate an action of hooking, catching, or crocheting. For example, you can say "他的钥匙掉进下水道了,只好用钩子把它钩上来。"(His key dropped into the drain pipe and he had to pick it up with a hook.)
"我用钩子把衣服勾住了" (wǒ yòng gōu zi bǎ yī fú gōu zhù le; I hooked the clothes with a hook).
