色彩 (sècǎi) can be used to refer to the colors of something, such as the 色彩 (sècǎi) of a dress or a painting. Example: 我喜欢色彩鲜艳的连衣裙。(I like colorful dresses.)
It can also be used to refer to certain thought tendencies or sentiments, such as the 感情色彩(sentiment, emotional coloring).

颜色 does not have the figurative meaning "certain thought tendency, certain sentiment". E.g. 感情色彩 sentiment, emotional coloring
颜色 when used in phrases "给...看看", takes on a figurative meaning which 色彩 does not have. E.g. 给你颜色看看。 (I) will teach you a lesson.
