叼 (diāo) is a verb that means "to hold by the teeth and/or lips". It is often used to describe the action of holding something in one's mouth, similar to how a dog would hold a bone.
Example 1: 他叼着一根烟,坐在沙发上。(Tā diāo zhe yī gēn yān, zuò zài shāfā shàng.) He held a cigarette in his mouth and sat on the sofa.
Example 2: 小狗叼着一块肉,跑到花园里。(Xiǎo gǒu diāo zhe yī kuài ròu, pǎo dào huāyuán lǐ.)
The puppy ran to the garden with a piece of meat in its mouth.
