会见 (huìjiàn) is usually used to refer to a formal meeting between two people, usually of a higher status. For example, a president may 会见 (huìjiàn) a foreign ambassador. It is also used to refer to a meeting between two people who have not seen each other in a long time, such as two old friends. It is not used to refer to a casual meeting between two people, such as two friends meeting for lunch. In this case, the word 见面 (jiànmiàn) is more appropriate.
