下来 (xiàlái) is used to indicate that something is coming down, getting off, or getting down. For example, 他们爬上山,等到太阳下来 (tāmen páshàng shān, děngdào tàiyáng xiàlái) means "they climbed the mountain and waited until the sun went down". It can also be used to indicate that something has come to an end, such as 如果每天锻炼一个小时,几个月下来,减肥的效果很不错, which means "If one exercises one hour everyday, after a few months the weight-loss outcome will be quite good." Additionally, it can be used to indicate that something has been harvested or has ripened, such as 水果下来了,我们可以采摘了 (shuǐguǒ xiàlái le, wǒmen kěyǐ cǎizhāile) which means "the fruit has ripened and we can pick it now".
