Edit
I want to use a kindle for my son to practice chinese for school, but I can't get his custom packs from his teachers to work on it. Is there a trick I'm missing? Should I try to save it somewhere instead of opening from email?

Hello there! Can you try the following and let us know what happens?
1. Open trainchinese.com/writer.php on your Kindle. 2. You'll see a section called "New HSK levels" on the left-hand side. Tap on one of the packs in that section. 3. A download should begin. The system may ask you if you want to open the file with Chinese Writer. If it doesn't pull down the notification bar at the top of your Kindle and you should see the downloaded file. You can tap it there, and should see the same prompt. If this works, it gives us a clue as to how to fix this issue, but it also gives you a way to use your son's custom packs while we work on it. It's a little complex - I'm sorry about that! 1. Open the character pack file on your computer in Notepad. 2. Copy all the Chinese characters into an e-mail, and send it to an account you can access on your Kindle. 3. Open the e-mail on your Kindle, select all the characters and Copy them. 4. Visit trainchinese.com/writer.php in your Kindle web browser, and paste the characters into the "Create your own pack" box on the right hand side. 5. In the box below that, choose a pack name. 6. Tap "Get character pack" - the file will download and you should be prompted to open it, as described above.
