Any chance for traditional forms?

I'll wait with purchasing my paid subscription until then but I'll be definitely popping in every now and then to see if there's any news on this subject. It's a real shame, cos the lack of traditional is for me (and my other classmates, who have to master both form sets) a major flaw on an ontherwise extreemely promissing program, especially since a number of free iPhone apps out there have this option from the start. Unfortunately, apart from that, these apps are more often than not rather poor as dictionaries, and even worse as flashcard trainers, so I'm definitely looking forward to your implementing the full forms.

I have the app on my ipad and do have traditional characters along simplified ones. Why can't this be put on the pc program?

When starting trainchinese we needed to start  with a focus and we decided to initially use only simplified characters, in the form they are used in mainland China and more and more also in modern Chinese literature from outside mainland China.  One additional reason for our decision was the experience from (nearly all) young Chinese living on the mainland who learn only simplified characters. Even so they can  interpret traditional characters (always with some exceptions and certainly with more difficulty if reading older Chinese literature).
We are fully aware that this approach may (unfortunately) not address those students who need to learn traditional characters from the start. That is the reason that once we have finished in developing our offerings using simplified characters we plan to include traditional characters (but certainly this will still take quite some time).

I also want to learn traditional characters actively, and to recognise simplified characters. Until then I\'ll be a waiting patiently.

I sure hope more people will join this thread. I think there\'s quite a demand out there for traditional characters, and we should definitely make ourselves heard. Nearly half of the people in my course, for example, own an iPhone or and iPod Touch partly because there are so many Chinese tools available in the app store, but none of them uses trainchinese, since traditional charracters are compulsory at my university.

That\'s some great news for all of us.

And Klaus, thanks for the swift reply and for really moving the matter of traditional characters up the agenda. I\'m really impressed with customer support and the speed at which trainchinese is addressing the issues here. Keep up the good work, and I\'m sure success is of the site is imminent. So impressed in fact, that I\'m actually considering taking your word for it, Klaus, and purchasing the paid subscription before the traditional characters feature appears. Trainchinese is a great flashcard app, the only flashcard program which I actually don\'t find borying (and that is saying something, because I have a really high boredom threshold).

Btw. I hope the trainchinese will enable a student to train BOTH traditional and simplified forms, and won\'t require choosing just one version from start till end. (Just a hint here :D)

This is a great app. I am a Chinese language teacher and have been looking at different apps to recommend to all my students. The main need we have here is for Cantonese (and traditional characters). For my students it is compulsory that they learn traditional characters (as if one can read traditional, they can often recognise most of the simplified ones!). Are you planning at all to add Cantonese phonetics/audio in the future?

Happy to hear the works are already in progress. I hope that the new versions of trainchinese applications will have a setting for students to study both forms at a time, rather than forcing them to choose between either the Traditional or Simplified characters.

For those who are checking out this question, let you now that we now are supporting both traditional characters and simplified characters. You can decide what to use just by changing the Settings of your account !
