Please make sure you have the Mute Button OFF.
The mute button is on the side of the iPad on top of the volume button. |

If this isn't the case I would suggest that your sound is being muted in the multitasking tray. Show multitasking by double-clicking the home button on your iPad. Then, swipe to the right to access the volume controls. If there is a line through your speaker icon then your iPad is muted.
