Question

Often I have extreme difficulty remembering certain words.   It is not unusual for me to fail to recognize these 'special' words after over 15 or 20 presentations of the word.   This seems to happen on less than 5% of the words but for some reason I have a 'mental block'.   What can be done to 'single out' these trouble spots and provide extra facilities to help?

I do not know if other people have this same problem but I get very frustrated when these words are presented.   I just look at them and go "sh--t I know I've seen this 100 times and I still can't remember...I must be a moron".   I resort to all kinds of methods - e.g. writing them down on a special list, listening to and reviewing them OVER AND OVER AND OVER again -- but they still baffle me.

1) It would be interesting to see if other people have the same difficulty with the same words.

2) I would be also interested to know if there are techniques that can be used for these 'special' words.

3) are there and "trainchinese" feature enhancements that could help get us over these very frustrating bumps

Yup, I've got the same problem. and sometimes with simple words as well!   I've been finding that finding the character together with another to make a compound word helps a little bit.

So does making a story for the word, which is known as the Heisig method, after James Heisig.  I have a good book called "Learning Chinese Characters" by Alison Matthews and Laurence Matthews that helps to put structure to the stories to make them keys to recall.
