没 is an adverb expressing negation. "没" is used in objective statement to negate the fact that an action has happened, or a certain nature or state has changed.
E.g. 我没去中国 [phr] I didn't go to China; I haven't gone to China
In the sentence above, we cannot replace 没 with 不 (bu4). If we say 我不去中国, the meaning of the sentence will be completely changed. 我不去中国 means at the moment or in the future, I am not going to China.

For more explanations and examples of the other adverb 不(bu4), please read my notes on the word.

In this post, we discuss the difference between 没 and 没有.

1. In terms of grammar and meaning of words, there is no difference between the two.

2. In certain structures, e.g. "一 ...都 ..." or "什么都..." we only use "没有".
Example 1: 屋里一个人都没有。There is no one at all in the room.
Example 2: 除了身上的衣服,他什么都没有了。 Except for the clothes on him, he has nothing else.
In these sentences above, we cannot use 没 to replace 没有.

3.Then there is a difference in the number of syllables. In order to save the effort and time spent on speaking, people tend to use 没 since it's shorter.

“不”和“没” 有什么区别?意思一样吗?什么时候使用?
Do 不 and 没 have any differences? Do they mean the same? When do we use them?
